The Cowichan Fleece and Fibre Fair!

My friend Kath and I took the Slan Baby Experience to Vancouver Island lasty weekend, and drove up to Duncan BC for the famous Cowichan Fleece and Fibre Fair! It was my first time visiting the historic Hub at Cowichan Station, so we tried to take extra pictures of the incredibly beautiful countryside and the fair itself, which filled both floors of the Hub itself and spilled out onto the grounds outdoors with many great booths from the creative people on the Island--special shout out to our friends at Copperspoon Dye Company and the Spinnacle Yarn Cafe, one of the best fibre arts hang-outs in British Columbia.

It was a beautiful golden day on Vancouver Island and the drive up the Malahat was especially beautiful. An incredible crowd of Vancouver fibre artists filled the space from the moment they opened the doors until they shooed the last customers out at 4:00 pm. Special thanks to all the warmly supportive creators who stopped by our booth to say hello. It was lovely to receive so many kind words and so much support, even though we came from the mainland!

I also cannot thank the volunteers enough for all their help and encouragement. This has been a hard year for me in many ways, and my recovery has not been as speedy as I hoped it would be. When we first arrived at the show I thought we would have to try to set up our booth on the upper floor of the Hub, and I faltered and really believed for a second that I would have to pull out of the show. They were incredibly kind and encouraging, found a way to accommodate my mobility problems, and got us in and out of the building during set-up and tear-down on time.

In the end we were able to set up a nice booth and many happy customers walked away with some of our hand-dyed yarn, embroidery floss, or our fun holiday mini balls.
It was a great show, and I hope one day to be invited to participate again. :)
