Note: Heraldic Purple is a hand-mixed colour that I created for fibre artists from the Society for Creative Anachronism. It is intended to be used for "Purpure", the royal purple which is used in the art of heraldry to signify amethyst or Tyrian purple on a coat of arms.
Cloud Roving is a 5-strand pencil roving yarn which I rescued from the warehouse closure of a historical sweater factory. Although it matches 1-to-1 in terms of weight with Briggs Country Roving, this yarn was wound into large rolls and appears to be spun from a finer grade of wool. Experienced knitters may find that it pairs well with discontinued pencil roving yarns like White Buffalo and Chinook.
Large balls of Cloud Roving weigh approximately 45-55 grams and should have roughly 40 yards of yarn. Small balls are 25-30 grams and have roughly 20 yards of yarn.
Because each ball is hand-wound after drying, these measurements are not precise.
All pencil roving yarns can be plied, and any number of strands can be used for spinning, felting, , weaving, knitting or crochet.
